Our CEO, Mr Eamon Scullin, attended the Mobile World Congress
(MWC) for the second time and was very impressed with the advances
since he attended in 2010. The 600 exhibitors were
show-casing their new devices, new mobile applications, and
touchless devices to record transactions using near frequency
communication (NFC). This year it was all about new 3D mobile
phones, mobile payments and a plethora of tablets with the Android
operating system.
Fern is developing a new suite of mobile services for its
customers to serve their clients better: online payments with
mobile network operators such as mPesa, online inquiries by clients
to access their accounts and see up to date balances. With
the arrival of lower cost tablets the face of mobile lending will
also change as the Loan Officers can operate using 3G to provide
instant access to the central server even in areas where Internet
connectivity is intermittent or even non- existent.
The development of new delivery channels using mobile devices,
3G, GPRS is under way in Fern at present and we will be showing
them to our clients who wish to increase the number of clients to
whom they can offer more services without the need for physical
branches.
Branchless Banking! Touchless Devices! Cashless Payments! Fern
is at the forefront of these new developments for you, our
customers.
