How do I backup my data?
|
We recommend CD with CDRW media for backing up your data for smaller
Credit Unions. Larger organisations may need a DAT tape-drive to backup
their data. Make at least two copies of your data at the end of your
day's transactions and take one of these off the premises
Data backup is not Fern's responsibility.
It is important that certain staff members of the Credit Union are
familiar with the backup and restoration of your Cubis data in case
your system has corrupted your data files and you need to restore
your last good backup. In some cases there may be a charge for this
work if Fern Computer Services are requested to restore any backups.
See hardware documentation for
specific file backup and restoration
Backup Rotation (View Method
)
This specifies daily incremental backups and a weekly full backup
stored off-site, providing a data history of two weeks. Here's
how it works.

What printers can I use?
|
For users who wish to make use of the cheque printing facilities
within Cubis, a print server must be installed, preferably HPJetdirect
3port. Fern should be consulted if a different print server is to be installed.
Cheque printer names must be 8 characterss maximum and must remain constant
within Cubis.
Printer names in the Cubis configuration are case-sensitive. Printing
problems can occur if the case is changed anywhere in the system.
We recommend the Star DP8340S (not serial) ticket printer or Microline
3320 (not serial) for Cubis ticket printing. The Star TSP600 Parallel
Thermal printer / Autocut can also be used with Cubis. Other Dot matrix
printers may work depending on the model, but you may have to program
or configure their settings regarding page tear-off, pitch, font etc
.

Can I use my Server for Cubis? |
No. Your Server must not be used for any purpose other than have its
resources used by your workstations, i.e. switch it on and leave it.
Using a server also as a workstation will ultimately slow your system
down and can cause fatal network problems if it crashes. |
|
Which Word Processor should I use?
|
Only one type of Word processor can be used by any workstation that
has that Word Processor installed on it, i.e. if you compose letters
in Word then Cubis can only read word documents that you set-up on
it. MSWord is recommended.
If you wish to change from works to word or visa versa, you will
need to convert the documents and update your letter maintenance
within Cubis.

How does the Cubis3 ~ Cubis 8 Conversion work? |
The transition from Cubis3 to Cubis 8 is a straight forward and
speedy one. The Credit Union will close for one day to allow Fern
to install Cubis 8 on all required terminals. After the installation
and backup of relevant system files, the data will be converted* and
summary totals and period end figures will be checked for consistency.
Full diagnostic procedures will then be carried out. If all is well
at this stage, then assigned Credit Union personnel will spot check
the data for anomalies.
*The time taken to run the conversion depends of the processing
speed of the Server/workstation in question and the member/transaction
size of the data.

Why do I get an error message that says "Position off Screen"? |
If you receive this error message, check your video settings. If you're
using a "Large Font driver" try setting it to a "Small
Font driver" or standard font driver and trying again. If you
still get this error message, your only other option is to set the
video display back to standard VGA 640x480.
On some computers, (depending on the video card) it is possible
to run the program in higher resolutions so long as you don't use
"Large Fonts" in the video settings. There are so many
different video cards and display font drivers that the only way
to determine if they work is to give the different settings a try.
To change the video setting in Windows 95, select the Start button
and then select Settings and Control Panel. From the Control Panel,
select Display and then select the Settings Tab. Move the Desktop
Area slider to the Less position. The prompt will change to 640
by 480 pixels. Select OK. Keep in mind that changing this setting
will affect other program and it may be necessary to restart your
computer.
